CCTV AMC: what's actually covered (and why it matters)

The whole point of CCTV is that the footage is there when you need it. And the cruel thing about CCTV is that it fails in exactly the way that hides this: silently. A camera drops offline, a hard drive wears out, recording stops — and nothing looks wrong until the day something happens and you discover the system stopped recording weeks ago. A CCTV maintenance contract exists to prevent precisely that. Here's what one actually covers, and why "install and forget" is a real risk for homes and businesses alike.

Why CCTV fails quietly

Unlike a laptop that clearly dies, CCTV can look perfectly fine while not doing its job:

• A camera goes offline — the others still record, so nobody notices one is dark.
• The hard drive fills or wears out — drives that record 24/7 have a limited life, and when they fail, recording can stop.
• Storage retention silently shrinks — you think you have 30 days of footage; you actually have three.
• Remote viewing breaks after a router change or app update, and nobody checks until they need it.
• A camera drifts out of position or its lens gets dirty, quietly covering the wrong area.

What a CCTV AMC covers

A proper CCTV maintenance contract turns "hope it's still recording" into "checked and confirmed." Typically it includes:

• Lens cleaning and angle adjustment — so image quality doesn't quietly degrade.
• Firmware and software updates — keeping cameras and the recorder current and secure.
• Remote viewing checks — confirming you can still see footage on your phone when it matters.
• Priority response — when a camera or recorder does fail, it's fixed quickly, not whenever someone gets around to it.

The storage question most people miss

The most common silent failure is storage. Hard drives that record continuously are consumables — they wear out, typically in a few years. When one fails or fills, recording can stop entirely. An AMC watches drive health and retention, and replaces a drive before it takes your footage with it.
